Social mobilization in healthcare activities is crucial for public health education because, it moves beyond traditional top-down approaches to actively involve and empower communities, fostering a sense of ownership over their health. In public health, social mobilization is a long-term, participatory process of bringing together diverse groups and community members to promote health, advocate for health policies, and create positive social and behavioural change. It involves fostering community ownership and collaboration by engaging individuals and groups as active change agents, not just recipients of services, to address health issues, increase awareness, and ensure sustainable solutions. This textbook aims to provide students, practitioners, and policymakers with comprehensive knowledge and practical tools to design, implement, and evaluate social mobilization initiatives effectively. Drawing on theory, real-world examples, and ethical considerations, this book bridges academic foundations with on-the-ground realities. The emphasis on healthcare reflects the urgent need for community-driven solutions to global health challenges. The content is structured to build from fundamental concepts to complex applications, enriched with case studies and practice exercises to foster active learning. Most of the research-based activities were done on Sierra Leone geographical region. We are grateful to the researchers, educators, and practitioners whose contributions have shaped this work. It is the hope that this book empowers readers to engage communities meaningfully and contribute to health improvements sustainably and ethically.
