Online K-12 Teachers’ Perceptions of Students’ AI Utilization and Teachers’ Outlook on the Future of Education in the Context of Artificial Intelligence

Abstract

This study explores the perspectives of online K-12 teachers about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in online educational at a large virtual cool on the East Coast of the United States. The researchers found that teachers’ familiarity with AI directly influences their adoption of AI tools in the online classroom. Despite teachers’ mixed beliefs about the ability of AI to enhance students’ learning, no significant relationship was found between these beliefs and teachers’ familiarity or usage of AI. Interestingly, teachers who had already incorporated AI into their teaching practices were more likely to believe in the benefits of AI in online education. However, no significant difference was found between teachers’ utilization of AI and their beliefs about whether AI increased student engagement and participation. These findings highlight the importance of teacher training and awareness for successfully integrating AI into online education. Future research should further investigate the factors influencing teachers’ adoption of AI and its impact on student outcomes.
