Abstract
Macrodystrophia lipomatosa (MDL) is a rare, congenital developmental anomaly and a form of congenital localized gigantism. It is characterised by hamartomatous proliferation of all the mesenchymal elements of a digit or digits and a disproportionate increase of limbs and digits. Here we report a case of 33 year old male who presented with history of painless gradual enlargement of second toe of left foot since childhood.Roentgenogram suggested the diagnosis and histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of macrodystrophia lipomatosa. The present case report describes the characteristic imaging features, histopathological features and emphasises on differential diagnosis and treatment of this rare congenital form of gigantism. This condition can lead to diagnostic dilemma and has to be differentiated from various other conditions as they differ in course, prognosis, complications and treatment. Keywords:
