Abstract
Ascites is common clinical condition. The underlying pathogenesis involves various mechanisms. In present study we had investigated 100 cases of ascites with regard to clinical history, biochemical parameters & cytological examination. We observed that Liver cirrhosis was the most frequent cause of ascites (68%) with SAAG > 1.1mg/dl. Malignancy was noted in 6% cases which were confirmed by cytological examination & revealed cholesterol value > 50mg/dl.Keywords:
