Abstract

Poorly documented data on infections caused by Enterobacter spp in Africa, especially south of the Sahara, and the increasingly growing demand for Cytobacteriological Examination of Urine (ECBU) have made necessary to carry out this study. The study aimed to investigate the epidemiological and bacteriological aspects of Enterococcus spp strains isolated in urine from 2015 to 2017 at CHUP-CDG, in order to contribute to better care. The distribution of the infected participants according to age has shown that children aged from 1 month to 1 year old were the most representative (37.9%). Regarding the sex, the majority of the infected people were female (66.7%). The distribution of urine analyzed by year has shown that from 2015 to 2017 the number of analyzed samples increased. The lowest number was recorded in 2015 (24.4%) and the highest number was recorded in 2017 (41.9). The study results showed that the prevalence of Enterobacter spp increased between 2015 and 2017 from 1.9 to 3.1 respectively. The majority of the participants (61.4%) infected by Enterobater spp were hospitalized at CHUP-CDG. The outpatients represented 38.6% of the participants. Among the hospitalized patients, the majority came from infant’s unit accounting for 38.3% of the overall participants. The lowest number were recorded in the emergency and oncology services with 1.2% for each clinical service. Most of these strains were sensitive to Vancomycin. We also found sensitivity to Nitrofurans, Chloramphenicol, Lincomycin and Pristinamycin. However, we saw a decrease in their sensitivity to Lincomycin in the same period.
