This paper investigates determinants of academic performance of pupils in Vietnam by applying multivariable regression and Probit models on the Lower Secondary Education Development Project’s dataset. It is found that that the characteristics of pupils, their parents, school, and community are important factors affecting academic performance and the probability of getting the national education standard. Based on empirical results, recommendations are given to promote academic performance and enhancing the national education standard in Vietnam.
