Interleukin (IL)-10 is an important immunoregulatory cytokine produced by many cell populations. Its main biological function seems to be the limitation and termination of inflammatory responses and the regulation of differentiation and proliferation of several immune cells such as T cells, B cells, natural killer cells, antigen-presenting cells, mast cells, and granulocytes. The present study has correlated the salivary IL-10 levels with that of the circulatory levels in periodontal health and diseased patients and also brings an attestation for Saliva as point of care diagnosis.
