Abstract

Hyptis suaveolens (Lamiaceae) is an aromatic herb commonly used in the treatment of various diseases. The essential oil yield of H. suaveolens was 0.5%. The analysis of the leaf essential oil by GC/FID and GC/MS allowed the identification of 43 compounds accounting for 90.2% of the total composition. The major compounds of the essential oil were sabinene (16.0%), 1,8-cineole (15.0%), β-caryophyllene (12.8%), bicyclogermacrene (10.1%) and β-pinene (8.7%). In perspective, we will carry out a study of the chemical variability of the essential oils of H. suaveolens in Senegal, as well as the evaluation of their biological activities
