abstract={One steroid, ¦Â-sitosterol (I), and two carboxylic fatty acids stearic (2), and <i>trans</i>-4-octadecenoic (3) acids were isolated from the roots of <i>Ximenia</i><i> americana </i>Linn. (Olacaceae). <i>Trans</i>-l4-octadecenoic acid exhibited <i>in-vitro </i>cytotoxicity against brine shrimp larvae of <i>Artemia salina </i>(LC50 = 79.¦Ìg/ml). Compounds 1 and 2 showed no activity in brine shrimp lethality test (LC50> 1000¦Ìg/ml). 1H and 13C NMR, IR and MS, spectroscopy have been used jointly to determine the conformation of the three compounds.},
