A wide spectrum of disorders can give rise to oral ulcers which may range from a local minor trauma to a significant local disease such as a malignancy or any other systemic illness. Early detection and prevention can have a potential impact on the overall incidence, morbidity, and mortality from oral cancers. However the clinical features may sometimes be ambiguous.
