<abstract language="eng">The aim of the paper is to investigate classify and investigate intelligent transport system (ITS) groups based on their potential to improve road safety. As the first step of the investigation an opinion survey combined with multi-criteria analysis of road safety experts has been carried out. In the second phase of the research, based on the results of the expert evaluation a cluster analysis has been provided to order ITS applications into clusters. Finally, based on the results of the two phase method the paper defines the effective ITS applications from a road safety point of view.</abstract>
