    <Abstract>Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a complex autoimmune disorder with a wide array of clinical manifestations including rash, photosensitivity, oral ulcers, arthritis, serositis, glomerulonephritis among others clinical findings. In this paper we globally summarized the most important epidemiological and clinical aspects to bear in mind, when the time comes to make the diagnosis of this rheumatic disorder and its management. Factor that are involved in the SLE pathogenesis and novel treatment options are mentioned.</Abstract>
