abstract={The aim of the present study was to evaluate the antioxidant potential of the stem bark extract of <i>Shorea roxburghii</i> (<i>S. roxburghii</i>) on CCl4 induced liver toxicity. Stem bark extract of <i>Shorea roxburghii</i> (SRE) was prepared using ethyl acetate. Administration of <i>S. roxburghii</i> inhibited the elevation marker enzymes such as aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and liver lipid peroxides in CCl4-treated Wistar rats. The natural antioxidant enzymes such catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and lipid peroxidation were significantly improved after the treatment of <i>S.roxburghii.</i> In this study, the results indicate that <i>S.roxburghii</i> can inhibit lipid peroxidation and improve the activities of antioxidant enzymes. The quantitative analysis of biochemical parameters, marker enzymes, antioxidant activities and histological study suggest the administration of the stem bark extract of <i>S.roxburghii</i> protecting the liver from CCl4 toxicity.},
