    <Abstract>In this paper we review the most important updated aspects of SLE, which is an autoimmune disorder of unknown etiology, where genetic, environmental and immunological factors are believed to play an important role in its immunopathogenesis. Aspects related to SLE causes, pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, diagnosis and treatment are discussed.</Abstract>
