Smart buildings use information technology to connect a variety of subsystems to optimize total building performance. A smart building achieves significant energy savings by taking advantage of improved technology and materials. Buildings generates huge amount of data from the initial design stage to operation. Big data revolutionaries the traditional view of building functions. A building element is not an isolated entity but involved in a connected system. Big data analytics provide new potentials of optimizing occupants’ environment (e.g. illumination, thermal comfort, air quality, physical security, sanitation) at the lowest cost and environmental impact over the building lifecycle. This special issue will cover all aspect of big data analytics in smart building from design to operation, from construction management to facility management. This issue will attract attentions from both academia and industry.
